Increased numbers applying for social housing in Waterford.

There's been a spike in the numbers of people applying for social housing in Waterford.

The local authority received 507 applications in the first six months this year compared to 499 for all for 2018.

Fianna Fail's Jason Murphy questioned whether the council would be able to cope.

Director of Service Ivan Grimes replied that he is confident they'll reach their targets.

"We have certainly seen an increase in the number of applications, but the number of new tenancies that we have allocated has also gone up significantly. Our capital programme is well on target to deliver. We have a target from the department of 281 units this year. I would be confident that we would reach that target and I would be reasonably confident that we will exceed it as well. So the level of demand is on the increase but the level of supply has significantly ramped up as well."
