Plans have been unveiled for short-stay accommodation and a major model railway project on the Waterford Greenway at Kilmacthomas.
Waterford City & County Council has commenced the Part 8 planning process for the project, situated at the village's former railway station.
Labour Councillor Ger Barron says it's an exciting development for the local area - and outlined more details to WLR News.
He described it as "a work of beauty".
"In my view it will be a very big tourist attraction - people will love it when they see it. It's accurate in every detail, explains the history of the line and includes all of the features along the line such as towns, villages, tunnels, bridges and station houses."
Cllr Barron explained that it will be built in a separate unit alongside the former train station as the existing building isn't large enough to accommodate the entire feature.
The model railway was an idea the late Lar Barton devised over 30 to 35 years and which he worked on in recent years.
