Final mass times at Mount Melleray Abbey have been announced.
The historic and much-loved Mount Melleray Abbey in West Waterford is set to be vacated in late January as part of a consolidation process by the Cistercians pending future decisions.
With effect from Sunday January 26th, three Cistercian communities, including Mount Melleray will be based, for an interim period, at Roscrea.
This new community has been given the name of ‘The Abbey of Our Lady of Silence’, and its residency at Roscrea, is described as "an interim measure".
Hundreds of massgoers flocked to Melleray yesterday for the final Sunday mass.
This week, mass will be held at 7.45am each morning from Monday through to Friday.
There will be no Liturgy of the Hours on Saturday 25th and no Mass on Sunday 26th January
The final mass at the historic abbey will be held on Saturday January 25th at 11am.
