Planning permission has been refused for a mast on a section of the Waterford Greenway in Dungarvan.
Residents had held a series of public meetings in relation to the proposed development in recent weeks - but planning permission has been refused by Waterford City & County Council.
Applicant On Tower Ireland Limited had applied for permission for a Section 254 license to erect a 20-metre monopole and 2 cabinets on the Ballyrandle Road, Dungarvan, Waterford on December 5th last.
In a ruling on February 7th, Waterford City and County Council refused planning permission on the grounds that the scale and nature of the proposed development at a prominent location adjoining the Waterford Greenway and in close proximity to other tourist amenities in the area - would constitute a highly obtrusive feature in the receiving landscape, would have a significant adverse visual impact and would thereby be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
The applicant can appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanala.
