A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Waterford City after footage showed a van being driven on the footpath over Rice Bridge.

The vehicle then crashed into a car waiting at the traffic lights at Grattan Quay.

CCTV footage shows those in the cars behind getting out to check on both parties.

The incident happened at 4:45pm.

A man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with a number of road traffic offences, including drink driving.

Gardaí have told WLR News that he will be held overnight for a court appearance in the morning at Waterford District Court.

One person, another man, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

It’s understood up to five vehicles were damaged over the course of the incident, including when the van first drove onto the footpath.

A full investigation is underway by Waterford Gardaí.
