The roadworks at Farronshoneen are set to continue until Christmas.

That's according to Alan Kirwan, engineer with Waterford City and County Council.

Works commenced last Monday, October 16 which has seen the traffic reduced to single-lane traffic on the approach to the roundabout.

At the meeting, which took place in City Hall, local Fianna Fáil councillor Stephanie Keating flagged the uncertainty within the community in terms of the duration and extent of the works.

In order to clarify the situation, Alan said the council expect the works to be completed by Christmas, with no exact date given as a benchmark.

He said, " They're putting pedestrian crossings on the four arms, so there will be a push-button crossing on the Outer Ring Road side, with an island in the middle."

There will also be a pedestrian crossing on the Tesco side of the roundabout on the approach to University Hospital Waterford.

"There will be another pedestrian crossing on the Williamstown Road and on the Farran Park side of the roundabout," he added.

The aim of the works, according to the council, is to improve safety for pedestrians when travelling in the vicinity of the roundabout.
