People are being asked to light a candle tonight and share the hashtag - #LightItUpForVicky - as she heads to the US today for treatment
The Mooncoin woman and Cervical Check Campaigner will make the journey to Maryland by herself to receive experimental immunotherapy to shrink her tumours.
On Friday night Vicky spoke to Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show about her decision to try this alternative form of treatment instead of the palliative treatment she would be offered in Ireland.
The interview received a huge response and prompted Waterford woman Yvonne Whelan to start a campaign, that aims to flood social media with flames of love and support for Vicky and her family.
"The hashtag is asking people to light a candle of hope for Vicky for the next stage of her journey. She has said herself on social media in the past day or two that she has been receiving so many messages of support and they mean the world to her and she'll get around to looking at them all when she's on the flight or on her journey.
"I just thought it would be fabulous and a positive spin on social media if people posted a picture of the candle of hope, so she would see it and her family and friends back home would too," Yvonne said.
On Friday night, the charity 'Heroes Aid' received so many donation requests that their website crashed. As part of this campaign, Yvonne is asking people to donate to the charity when they post their pictures.
"The charity is close to her heart and she's doing great work for them as a Patient Advocate."
"Whenever people want to do it today if they could put in the link for the charity http://heroesaid.ie and donate a small amount it would be great to do include that with the hashtag."
