The People's Park in Waterford City is set to be lit up. Locals have been calling for lighting to be installed in the park for decades, citing safety concerns.
The motion was passed at a recent meeting of Waterford Council, where it was announced lighting will be installed around the perimeter of the historic park.
Speaking at the meeting, local Councillor Seamus Ryan said residents were concerned about safety, especially at night.
"It was brought to my attention as a matter of security and to increase it within the people's park.
"I also think it will improve the aesthetics of the park by having lighting around the perimeter."
Mayor of Waterford, Jason Murphy added saying the introduction of lighting in the park has come at the right time.
"I am delighted to see this alongside my fellow councillors who have been raising this matter for years.
"Regarding a timeline, we need to ensure that this is done as soon as possible."
