'Left in the dark' - Public lighting outages reported across Waterford

Street lighting in Rural Waterford needs to be addressed. That's the message from Councillor Declan Clune in relation to lighting outages across the county.

The contractor appointed to the council has not met service level agreements according to several local representatives.

The Independent Councillor raised the issue at the most recent Comeragh meeting of Waterford City and County Council.

"They are in breach of their SLA. What penalties are in place? Surely there must be some workforce plan. They know obviously in the Winter there's more of a demand for lighting issues, be it weather conditions or the dark evenings. I just think at this stage every district is affected.

"We have a contract with the provider. I know in Portlaw some streetlights have been out since November. I was in Kilmeaden the other night and I met some residents. We walked the length of the road and from the Sweep Pub down, every couple of lights were off, and again that is a busy road. This is concerning for a lot of people living in the area.

"If you go to some of the other villages there's lights out going back to October. My understanding is that there's a ten-day SLA for them to repair any reported lights that may be defective or out.

"If you go into the Dead Suir app, it shows you the date that these outages were reported, so the information I have in front of me is accurate."
