Leave.eu - the website founded by pro-Brexit campaigners - has had its domain name temporarily suspended.
The website moved its internet registration to Waterford from Bristol to avoid suspension by the EU after Britain exited the union on December 31st.
Domain names ending in .EU can only be held by businesses or individuals located within the EU or European economic area.
The Guardian newspaper reports that Waterford businessman Sean Power, in whose name the domain name is registered, has denied having any involvement with the organisation.
Mr Power is the chief executive of professional services company BSG.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond has written to authorities in Ireland and the EU including the Standards in Public Office Commission (Sipo), the Revenue Commissioners and the Data Protection Commissioner about the group’s domain name registration and its accounts and status with Revenue.
According to the Irish Times, Deputy Richmond, who is the party's Brexit spokesman, has appealed to Minister for Local Government Darragh O’Brien and the Coalition “to make sure that Leave.EU, quite simply, is not welcome in Ireland”.
He said the group also “trades in senseless and baseless xenophobia the likes of which we in this country should not and do not have any time for”.
