Latest covid figures by electoral area show high incidence rates in all areas; UHW admissions also reach new high

The rate of Covid-19 has increased in every local electoral area in Waterford except Tramore.

However, the area continues to have the highest incidence rate in Waterford despite seeing a 10 percent drop in cases.

624 cases were confirmed in Tramore Waterford City West between the 5th and the 18th of January to give a 14-day incidence rate of 2,789 per 100,000 people. The week before it was more than 3,000 but it's still double the national average.

It's followed by Waterford City East, the incidence rate on Monday reached 2,301 after 529 cases were confirmed during the previous fortnight (up from 493 cases).

In Waterford City South there was a 35 percent increase in cases to 424 to give an incidence rate of 1,886.

In Portlaw/Kilmacthomas the number of cases increased from 114 to 137 to give a rate of 800.

There were 70 cases in the Lismore area up from 66 to give a rate of 652 and Dungarvan continues to have the lowest rate locally - it was 624 per 100,000 people after 128 cases were confirmed there.

Hospital

Meanwhile, the number of patients with Covid-19 at University Hospital Waterford has reached a record 122.

There were 20 admissions in the 24 hours to 8 o'clock last night - the largest number in the country - according to the HSE's latest update

Six of those patients are being treated in critical care units.
