A planning application for 98 houses in Kilmacthomas, which was granted permission by the local authority, has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála,
Waterford Council granted conditional permission to SE Construction (Kent) Ltd., in early February for the development at Graigueshoneen.
The permission has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála, including by Mary and Leah Kiersey, who objected to the planning application on the grounds the development will not align with the
sustainable development goals of Waterford Council’s Development Plan.
The appellants argued there is insufficient public transport available within the village that would allow the occupants of the 98 houses to use public transport to get to work or other essential services.
They also expressed concern over the current health system in the area and say two nearby schools have reached their capacity.
The appellants noted that Uisce Éireann indicated there are no plans to upgrade the water system in the area.
An Bord Pleanála is expected to make a decision on the appeal case by July 1st.
