Waterford is mourning the loss of legendary tango dancer James (Jim) McManus, who passed away yesterday at the age of 104.
In a post on social media, Waterford Tango announced Jim's passing, leading the tributes to the world-renowned dancer.
"With heavy hearts we must let you know that our dearest and oldest tanguero passed away yesterday evening. Jim died peacefully holding the hand of his beautiful daughter. Jim, originally from Paisley near Glasgow, lived in Slieverue and was well-known on the local, national and international dancing scene.
Mr.McManus put his long life down to cooking from scratch, avoiding sugar, morning stretches and weekly dance classes.
The Scottish native, began dancing as a teenager in Paisley and still attended tango and ballroom classes right into his 105th year of life.
He traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to represent Ireland in the World Tango Championships in 2019 at the age of 99.
Jim McManus featured in the RTÉ documentary 'Secrets from the Dancefloor', which told the stories of inspirational dancers from all walks of life.
In the programme, he recalled how he met his soulmate Patsy through dance.
At one point in his extraordinary live, Jim fought during World War II, being called up as a driver and radio commander at the age of just 19 - some ten days after D-Day.
January 5th marked a major milestone for Jim when he celebrated his 104th birthday. He chatted to WLR's Kieran Foley ahead of the big occasion.
May he rest in peace.
