Waterford is now one of four counties which has a similar 14-day Covid-19 incidence rate to Kildare when it was locked down last month.
The rate here has reached 80.9 cases per 100,000 population.
The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has been notified of 94 new cases here over the last fortnight.
When the lockdown in the Midlands happened Kildare had an incidence rate of just over 82, Offaly was on 81 and Laois was at around 70.
Now, according to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillence Centre, two counties have higher rates, with another two with similar levels of the virus over the past two weeks.
Dublin's figure is now more than 114, while Louth sits on just under 92, two weeks ago that was just 14.
However two more counties have similarly high rates of incidence to the midlands counties when restrictions were imposed, with Waterford and Leitrim on 81, however Leitrim's low population has contributed to the figure being so high.
Other counties with rates above 60 are Offaly and Wicklow, while Limerick which had been cause for alarm two weeks ago is now on 56.
The lowest rate of infection across the country is Sligo which has had five cases over the past two weeks and has an incidence rate of just over 7.
