Waterford's Chamber of Commerce is welcoming the announcement of 350 new jobs for the county.

It's after Horizon Therapeutics announced earlier that they have submitted a planning application to vastly expand their premises in the IDA Business Park here.

The bio-tech company plans to build a new drug substance facility, which they say will create 350 new jobs over time.

"Horizon's announcement this morning of 350 skilled jobs is a very welcome boost to the local economy," says Gerald Hurley, CEO of Waterford Chamber of Commerce, "and shows their confidence in Waterford and the wider region.

"We wish them every success and look forward to working with them over the coming years."

Waterford has attracted many of the pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the last few years, the most recent of which was Horizon when they bought EirGen last year.

MSD, Teva, and Sanofi all have very large bases here as well, employing thousands between them.

"More importantly now, as a university city," Mr Hurley continued, "Waterford is best placed to produce the workforce required for companies like Horizon.

"And we hope this announcement will show other companies looking to invest in Ireland, that Waterford is a prime location in terms of development."
