A Dungarvan/Lismore councillor says the Sacred Heart unit in Dungarvan is on track to reopen in September.

The local community protested against the closure of the long-stay rehab unit when it was shut at short notice last May.

The HSE blamed the shortage of nursing staff for the temporary measure.

But Labour's John Pratt says interviews have taken since place to recruit nurses with a view towards it being reopened after the summer.

Councillor Pratt says the unit is badly needed for patients and staff, and he and others will continue to monitor the situation.
