50 broadband connection points are now providing high-speed internet to some of the most isolated and rural communities in the country.
The points have been set up in community halls, libraries, GAA facilities, and other public spaces where locals can avail of 150Mb high speed internet.
200 of these facilities will be connected by the end of this year, with a further 100 to get up and running in 2021.
Some of the planned connection sites in Waterford include St Mary's N.S. Butlerstown, Fenor N.S., Faithlegg N.S., Whitechurch N.S. in Cappagh, Ballycurrane NS in Clashmore, Knockanore Community Centre, Ballysaggart Community Centre and Mount Melleray Community Hall.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys believes the access points can revitalise rural Ireland:
"Remote working last year, I was talking about it, it was like a concept it now has become a reality and it can be the gamechanger for rural Ireland because people can live in their communities and they can work in their communities."
