The much awaited road map for reopening Ireland has been published, and An Taoiseach Míchéal Martin has made his address to the nation. Under the new guidelines, almost all restrictions will be lifted by October 22nd. But what's happening in between, in terms of live music, sport, work places and more? Here's what we know:
September 6th is a key date for live sports and entertainment events
- a 75% capacity for outdoors events will be permitted for vaccinated people.
- 60% capacity for indoors for vaccinated people.
- Live music can return at weddings.
- Confirmations and communions will be allowed.
- Religious ceremonies back at 50% capacity.
What about nightclubs?
It's expected that a pilot event will be held later in September, to ascertain how it will work, but further plans have yet to be made regarding when we see a full return to the nightclubs of pre-pandemic times.
Returning to workplaces and smaller indoor activities
There will be a phased return to offices and other places of work from September 20th. Employers will be encouraged to consult with staff and draw up plans.
On this date, there will also be a return to organised indoor sports events such as yoga classes and Pilates.
What's expected to happen from October 22nd?
It's expected that by that point, almost all restrictions will be lifted in Ireland. But, that's subject to 90% of the adult population being vaccinated and a fall in the incident rate of Covid 19. It's expected we'll still be asked to wear face coverings on public transport.
By this point, Nphet is also expected to be scaled back, and will no longer be in situ in an emergency capacity, but rather as a 'surveillance function' for the HSE and the Department of Health.
