Gardaí in Waterford say parents need to know where their children are this Halloween.
Ahead of festivities tomorrow, officers are warning that the combination of young people, fireworks and alcohol can make for dangerous situations.
Sergeant Pat Kirwan from Dungarvan Garda Station says parents need to be responsible on Halloween night:
"Do you know where your child is? Are they at a bonfire? Do they have cans in their hand? Are they safe? It is the responsibility of the parent to mind their kids, it's not up to the Guards to be babysitting them. Emergency services are going to be stretched on Halloween, we can't be sitting watching a bonfire with kids making sure they're safe. You need to know where your kids are. If you don't know ask yourself the question why don't you know."
Sergeant Kirwan is also reminding people that fireworks are illegal:
"They're classed as explosives and if you're caught with them you can end up in court. But besides that, it's the dangers of fireworks themselves. You can have good quality ones and bad quality ones. The fuses might be faulty on them, they might go quicker, they might not explode at the time and the next thing you go to pick them up and they explode in your hand."
