A rolling road closure as part of Waterford's Greenway extension is now set to continue until next year.

The stretch between Grattan Quay and the Quarry Road has been fully closed to traffic since the 1st of March.

Works began on the extension of the Greenway from Bilberry to the City Centre in October of last year.

It's hoped the enhancement and improvement of the 2.1 kilometre stretch will also provide for the future Greenway links to New Ross, Rosslare, and Tramore.

A 6.8 million euro contract was awarded to John Craddock Limited of Kilcullen for the works.

A temporary road closure was put in place between Grattan Quay and Waters Gate last November and December.

Then, early this year, the council announced that Grattan Quay to the Quarry Road would be completely closed to traffic from March until the end of December.

That closure has now been extended until the 28th of February, 2023.

However, the council says local access will be maintained for all residents, businesses, and Greenway cyclists and pedestrians.

The diversion route will remain as is; via Bridge Street, Gracedieu Road, and Quarry Road.
