Waterford's first MEP, Grace O Sullivan is attending her party's convention in Dublin this weekend.
She says the feeling is very positive among party members that they can make real changes following their success in the recent local and European elections.
It has been revealed at this weekends convention that the Green Party experienced a 60% increase in membership this year.
Grace O Sullivan says that this growth will allow them to put real pressure on the government.
"They (the government) really aren't living up to anything with regards to climate measures or biodiversity decline.
We have to have parties like the Green Party watching and putting pressure on the government. Its a great place to be but we are very acutely aware that we have to be very careful and manage that growth appropriately."
