Restrictions around hospitality and household visits over the Christmas period are expected to be considered by Government today, following recommendations which came out of a Nphet meeting last night.
The Irish Times reports that some of the changes expected to be discussed include reduced capacity in pubs, smaller numbers at table bookings for indoor hospitality and a limit on the amount of households that can mix.
The wider use of Covid certs for allowing entry into settings and premises, is also understood to be among the measures up for consideration.
On Wednesday the news broke that a positive case of the Omicron variant of Covid 19 was confirmed in Ireland, prompting further concern among health officials about the spread of the disease in the run up to Christmas.
New travel measures were due to come into effect from today, requiring those flying into Ireland to produce a professionally conducted negative antigen test (taken within 48 hours) or a negative PCR test (taken within 72 hours). However RTE reports that decision has now been delayed.
The public is likely to find out sooner rather than later, what restrictions will be in place for Christmas.
