The Government are considering an extension the mid-term break of schools at the end of October to supress the spread of Covid-19 in Ireland.
As reported in The Irish Times, a Government source has said adding an extra week to this year's break "has been discussed briefly", but it is understood that the issue has not been formally considered and no contact has been made with unions or schools as of yet.
Although keeping schools open has been a priority of the Government and the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) since they reopened in September, the considerations of other EU countries have been taken into account, many of whom are contemplating closing schools in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.
Schools are due to close for mid-term break between Monday, October 26th and Friday, October 30th, but under the new considerations, they could remain closed until Friday, November 6th.
The Cabinet sub-committee for Covid-19 strategy will meet today to discuss recommendations from Nphet after they met yesterday.
