There's a steady flow of uptake for a government scheme in Waterford. The Vacant Property Grant provides government funding to renovate vacant and derelict properties to be used for housing.

Councillor Seanie Power raised the topic at a recent Comeragh District meeting of Waterford City and County Council. Speaking to WLR News at the meeting, the Fine Gael Councillor says it's important to utilise vacant properties.

"I would have a good few queries regarding the property grant. We might have even seen it on our tellies recently on Room to Improve with Dermot Bannon and the benefits of revamping old properties.

"I think it has been a huge success, and we have a lot of applications in Waterford at the minute. I know the department is busy, but I think it would be beneficial if we could recruit extra staff to deal with the influx of applications.

"It's positive for Waterford, and it would be great to see old vacant properties come back into use that are an eye sore, and provide somewhere for people to live."
