On Jan 3rd, 1994, 22-year-old Imelda Keenan originally from Mountmellick vanished from Waterford city, where she had been studying at the Central Technical Institute.
Her brother Gerard Keenan who lives in Waterford said her disappearance and the lack of any closure in the missing person case had hung like a dark cloud over the family for the past 25 years.
He says the tragedy had taken a toll on the family, and three relatives, including his mother, had died in the past nine years.
Imelda’s mother Elizabeth died in 2008 not knowing what became of her daughter.
Gerard has begged anyone with information about her disappearance to come forward.
Waterford based Garda Superintendent Chris Delaney says despite multiple searches as well as national and local media attention
they've been unable to locate Imelda or explain her disappearance.
He says this case remains an open investigation.
Supt Chris Delaney says the lack of answers fails to give closure to the family in cases like this and he says any information will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
