Gardai in Waterford are again reminding people not to drive to a destination to get exercise.

Over the weekend, a number of areas were closed to visitors including the Prom in Tramore, Mahon Falls, Kilcooney Woods, Ardmore, Colligan Woods, and Clonea beach.

Gardai yesterday turned people away who had travelled to Tramore for recreational exercise.

Inspector Gavin Hegarty says they are trying to discourage that because it is putting people at risk.

"The advice of government is that if you want to get exercise that you do it as a family group and you do it within 2km of your home.

"We're still seeing people getting into their cars to drive in order to then get exercise.

"The rule of thumb is that if you're getting into your car to go and get exercise you've gone too far. You need to get your exercise within 2km of your home.
