Gardaí in Waterford are reminding homeowners to protect their homes this Christmas.
Burglaries tend to rise during the winter months.

Garda Aidan McCarthy from Dungarvan Garda Station says it's vital homeowners don't become complacent over the festive period.

"Its a time of year where we have shorter days and longer evenings," he said. "There's far more darkness. The criminals like darkness. Just make sure that when you go out you have everything locked up safe and sound. Criminals are aware that there are more things in houses to be stolen at Christmas. Just make sure you have your alarm on, your doors and windows locked and keep yourself safe."
