A garda has died in a shooting incident in Castlerea, Co Roscommon.
The garda, who was on duty at the time, was shot by a man in Castlerea and was left critically injured at the scene, which was sealed off immediately and other gardaí and paramedics arrived.
He died from fatal gunshot wounds following the incident in the town which occurred shortly before midnight.
A man was arrested after the attack and is being held for questioning in Castlerea Garda station.

The section of Main Street remains sealed off this morning.
Gardai are now trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting
They say they will confirm the identity of the garda once all his family and relatives have been informed.
