Former UHW Manager promoted to HSE National Director of Acute Hospitals

Former University Hospital Waterford General Manager Grace Rothwell is being promoted to HSE National Director of Acute Hospitals.

The Irish Examiner reports that she is taking up the role on an interim basis while the transition to HSE health regions from hospital groups and community organisations continues.

Ms. Rothwell recently left her role at UHW to work as Chief Officer of HSE South East community healthcare.

During her time at UHW, the hospital saw its trolley numbers fall significantly.

The hospital is regularly highlighted by the HSE and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly for having found workable solutions to overcrowding.

Yesterday (Tuesday), an INMO count of trolley number showed four patients were on trolleys in Waterford - compared to 72 in Cork University Hospital and 99 in University Hospital Limerick.
