Laid-off Debenhams workers are spending their 200th day on the picket lines today.

They've been blocking liquidators from taking stock from the stores since early in April -- arguing that a 2016 agreement with their former employer for four weeks’ pay per years service redundancy should be honoured.

Shop stewards say the state should have brought in legal protections for redundancy agreements during company liquidations when it was recommended four years ago.

They say the failure to implement a 2016 report which urged the government to give legal protection to layoff agreements has put all workers in the firing line for "tactical liquidations".

Michelle Gavin is one of three former workers on the picket line in Waterford this morning, the former shop steward says she's disappointed to be still picketing 200 days later.

She said the fight will continue until the government takes action:

"Just sit down and have a discussion and see what can be resolved. At the end of the day there were able to put a million on the table so use the same method and just offer a bit more and try bring a resolution to this that's advantageous for everyone, so to speak."

The former Debenhams workers say they remain as determined now as when they first embarked on their campaign.
