A fisherman has been airlifted to hospital in Waterford.
The man sustained injuries onboard a trawler 40 miles south of Dunmore East.
Neville Murphy from Dunmore RNLI said they were alerted just after 8.00 this morning "for a medical evacuation of an injured fisherman on board a trawler".
"We launched and thankfully helicopter Rescue 117 arrived on scene shortly before us and they airlifted the man back to Waterford Airport."
He added that they were stood down at that time and that about an hour later they arrived back in Dunmore East. "Thankfully the man is in hospital now and we wish him a speedy recovery."
Neville Murphy said, "40 miles off for a trawler is a long way off," adding that "you would be a good couple of hours - five or six hours transiting back".
"To have the speed of the lifeboat and the speed of the helicopter to bring the man into definitive care where he needs it, is a great asset to have," he concluded.
