A fire has broken out in Wexford General Hospital this afternoon (Wednesday).

At least five fire engines are at the scene and the blaze is understood to have occurred on the building’s second floor.

It’s understood the hospital is currently being evacuated (16:30).

Gardaí and Wexford County Council are asking that anyone travelling to Wexford Town, completely avoid that area and that people keep all windows and doors shut.

They’re also advising that any ventilation systems be turned off.
