Residents of a housing estate in Dunmore East say they're frustrated and angry about anti-social behaviour taking place at a vacant house on their street.
The house at Shanakiel was set on fire last night.
It was the scene of a fatal stabbing in July 2018 when 25 year old Jack Power from Brownstown died after being stabbed.
18-year-old Dean Kerrie with an address in Portarlington, Co Laois was charged with his murder in July of this year.
Gardaí in Dunmore East say they received a call at 10:15pm last night and attended the scene along with the fire services.
Officers say the blaze was brought under control and no one was injured.
Investigations are ongoing and a technical examination is due to be carried out.
Catherine Keating lives in the house next door. She told WLR News that she arrived home with her son to find the vacant property on fire:
"The front of the house was engulfed in flames. There was loud bangs so there was obviously canisters or whatever in there. I had to run in and take my other kids out of the house.
"The whole estate literally came out of their houses. They're frustrated and angry. We rang the fire brigade and the police came along. We were on the street for about two hours until we could go back into our houses."
"To see a house left like that by the council when you know families that are willing to take a house like that, take out a Credit Union loan and turn it around, if the council's excuse is they haven't the money to put into it right now."
