The Irish Petroleum Industry Association says strict protocols are in place at filling stations around the country to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
It follows reports on social media that pump handles are spreading the virus.
The association says pump handles are no more or less prone to the spread of infection than any other hard surface, and they're taking significant steps to keep customers safe.
It says filling stations are providing hand sanitiser, as well as gloves and paper towels for use at the fuel pumps, and workers are regularly washing and sanitising their hands and the areas customers interact with.
The association says it's following all advice from the HSE and relevant authorities and would ask customers to do the same.
It's also asking customers to only use what they need in regards to hand sanitiser, gloves and paper towels.
