An appeal has been lodged against changes to a local bar in Ferrybank, Waterford City.

Residents in Ferrybank have lodged an appeal to Waterford City and County Council concerning changes at the Briar Rose Bar.

The approved plans consist of the construction of a new three-storey structure that will provide five one-bed apartments, 12 two-bed apartments, and two three-bed apartments.

Waterford City and County Council approved the plans submitted by applicant Tom Pang, on December 7.

In addition, the proposed development will also include the construction of a single-storey refuse store, sheltered bicycle storage area, surface car parking and the demolition of an existing single-storey public house.

Several previous appeals were lodged against the development by locals for reasons including insufficient parking, overdevelopment, building height, privacy, and right-of-way complications.

The appeal was lodged on January 15th to An Bord Pleanála by Marston Planning Consultancy, on behalf of 12 local residents.

A decision is due to be made by An Bord Pleanála by May 16th.
