A long-awaited Engineering Building at SETU is set to be completed by late 2027 into early 2028.

The building has been in the planning stages since 2007, however, the project was terminated in 2011.

The recently approved plans closely resemble an application that was submitted in 2019.

Speaking to WLR, President of the South East Technological University (SETU), Veronica Campbell - confirmed that initial works will get underway in the weeks ahead.

"The engineering building is one of two buildings that have been sanctioned and approved by Cabinet before Christmas for SETU. We're expecting the construction team to be on site in Q1 2025 - in the next month or two. It's a PPP - so it's not something that we within the university are project managing ourselves. That's being done at government level, but we're expecting contractors on site in the next few weeks.

"It will be complete towards the end of 2027", she continued. "The beginning of 2027 is when we'd be expecting it to be handed over to the university for occupation. During that academic year, we'll start to be moving some of our activities in. The plans for that building were done ages ago and the plans were locked because it was a PPP - I was looking at them recently and of course they were developed before my time. It's going to be a great building. It's an attractive looking building.  It's very flexible, open, airy space, so it's going to be a great asset."
