Planning permission which was granted for a new supermarket in Dungarvan has been appealed.
It's believed that Tesco is planning to open a store in the West Waterford town.
An appeal has been lodged with An Bord Pleanála against a proposed new supermarket in Dungarvan.
It is strongly speculated that the proposed new supermarket will be an anchor for British grocery retailer Tesco.
Waterford Council granted conditional permission to local developer Shane Houlihan for a 1-2-storey anchor convenience store on a 1.49-hectare site at Richard A. Walsh Street.
The site is adjacent to Dungarvan Shopping Centre and the rear of Dungarvan SGC Cinema.
A Kerry-based company, Hollybush Properties Unlimited, made a submission to Waterford Council objecting to the proposed new supermarket in Dungarvan.
They say Dungarvan is already well serviced with stores including Garvey’s SuperValu, Dunnes Stores, Aldi, Lidl, and other convenience stores within one kilometre.
The appeal to An Bord Pleanála by Hollybush Properties Unlimited was submitted on 15th February, by Kathy McNally, of Brock McClure Consultants, acting as agent for the Tralee-based company.
In their submission to An Bord Pleanála, Ms. McNally said Hollybush Properties Unlimited is disappointed that their legitimate grounds of concern have not been positively addressed by Waterford Council
They have sought the Board to overturn the council’s decision and refuse permission for the proposed development - a decision on which is expected in June.
