Dungarvan Community Hospital have been found to be non-compliant in 5 different areas by a HIQA report, as a result of an unannounced inspection that took place on December 12th last year.

Dungarvan Community Hospital currently provides long-term care for 85 residents over the age of 65.

There has been repeated non-compliance over a series of inspections dating back to March 2020 in relation to the overall premises.

The registered provider had not taken all reasonable measures to protect residents from abuse.

Incidents of unexplained bruising sustained by residents were followed up in detail from a medical and nursing perspective, however no action was taken to rule out a safeguarding concern.

Records reviewed by the inspector show that 17% of the current staffing complement did not have up-to-date training and safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

Residents were required to isolate for five days on admission despite paperwork indicating that one resident did not have an active infection, which was a contradiction to national guidance.

Assurance was not provided that persons working in the centre could safely evacuate residents in the event of a fire and the maintenance of fire equipment required strengthening.

The chemical storeroom outside one unit was also in a state of disrepair, the door to the room was open and could potentially be accessed by residents.
