There are calls for faster turnaround times to fix broken street lights in County Waterford.
A meeting of Dungarvan and Lismore district council has been told that whole areas have been left without lights in the middle of winter.
Labour's Thomas Phelan says Byrneville in Dungarvan is one area that he was called to recently.
"I went to see the problem myself and unfortunately when I was there I saw an ambulance tending to a lady who had suffered a fall in the darkness.
"Nobody expects all streetlights to be working 100% of the time but when all the lighting is out at the same time in an area, there is a reasonable expectation for a faster fix than if just one or two lights were out."
Cllr Phelan said that that he received an email last week that stated that there were just over 100 streetlight faults in the area.
The streetlight's contract is due for renewal and Fianna Fáil Cllr Tom Cronin said he wants to see a more proactive approach taken by the new contractor.
"The last contractor we had used to go around towns and villages in the nighttime to see what lights were out.
"I think that whatever is in the next contract, that would have to be essential. That they would do a drive-thru every so often through towns and villages.
"If you look at Dungarvan on the bypass there are lights missing -individual lights missing all the time."
