The Dulux Paints factory in Cork is to close after 140 years in operation.
A decision was recently taken by Dulux's parent company, Dutch firm AkzoNobel, to close three of its manufacturing sites as part of a "multi-year efficiency plan to be fully finalised by the end of 2026".
According to the Irish Examiner, the closure of the Cork factory will result in the loss of 45 jobs.
In addition to the Cork site, AkzoNobel confirmed it will also cease operations in Groot-Ammers in The Netherlands and in Lusaka, Zambia.
"The intended site closures align with AkzoNobel's strategic priorities and its commitment to industrial excellence.
"By focusing on units with scale and higher cost efficiencies, AkzoNobel aims to rationalise, upgrade and optimise its industrial network to improve competitiveness and drive sustainable growth," a statement from the company read.
AkzoNobel added: "The related social partners have been informed about the intended closures and next steps.
"Finalisation will follow after the usual consultation process with employees and local social partners."
