The South East Technological University have submitted an application to Waterford Council to convert the Dome Bar premises into office space.

The bar, once a hub of student nightlife, has not been in use for a number of years since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Dome was often the venue for events on Freshers and RAG week on campus, with a number of high-profile artists having played in the college bar down the years – but it is now set to serve the college in a different way.

In a statement to the Waterford News and Star, SETU confirmed their intention to re-purpose the space.

“SETU routinely re-purposes space to maximise its use. The Dome Bar has not been operational for a number of years and we plan to redevelop it to optimise the space.”

The SETU campus in Carlow will also not have a bar in operation but the university have clarified that they do provide designated social spaces to students.
