Waterford Council is to benefit from €2,077,500 in funding for Housing Adaptation Grants.
It's part of a €75 million package nationwide, which will support home adaptations for older people, those with a disability and people with mobility issues.
The local authority can draw down 80% of the costs - or 1.6 million - from the central exchequer.

Councillor Joe Conway said the funding stream is very welcome:

“Today’s funding announcement equates to 80% exchequer funding through the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with 20% funding from the relevant local authority, I am confident every local authority will deliver on the 20% part of the package.”

“Grants of up to €30,000 are available to assist people with a disability in carrying out necessary works to make a house more suitable for their needs. Up to €8,000 is available to assist older people to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out and up to €6,000 for mobility aids and support for older people and those with a disability to live independently.”
