Local Debenhams strikers in Waterford are marking the 150th day of their strike this weekend with a rally.
In early April, Debenhams announced that it was going into liquidation and would not be reopening its stores after the Covid-19 pandemic.

This saw the loss of 2,000 jobs, 90 in Waterford.

Michelle Gavin is a former worker and shop steward at Debenhams Waterford, she said it's "soul destroying" keeping the picket going with no sign of a resolution. She said "I just feel we're not getting answers, we don't seem to be going anywhere, so I suppose you feel kind of despondent because of that".
Former employee Margaret Sinnott said it was hard to keep going after so long "we knew the company wasn't going well but we did think if the company closed some stores that you'd be given your six or eight weeks notice depending on how many years you were there and you'd get what was rightfully  yours, the deal that was on the table, but they just walked away and left us with nothing."
Saturday's rally is part of a series of nationwide rallies organised by Debenhams workers. It will begin outside the main entrance of City Square Shopping Centre at 2.00pm on Saturday. There will be a short march to the Quays and back to City Square via Broad Street and a few short speeches.
