The death has occurred of former city councillor and Mayor of Waterford Oliver (Ollie) Clery.
He was elected to Waterford City Council in 1999 and, in 2002, he became the first member of the Progressive Democrats to serve as Mayor of the city.
Mr Clery, of Daisy Terrace, Summer Hill, Waterford, was involved with various community groups and initiatives, and was a founding member of the University Action Group.
He died yesterday (Sunday) and was predeceased by his brothers Johnny, Eddie, Mattie, and sisters Bernie and Maudie.
He is survived by his wife Mary, children Gerard, Daphne and Conor, daughter-in-law Catherine and Tatiana, son-in-law Chris, grandchildren Darragh, Ryan, Millie, Ella, Anya, Jack and Oisin, and his sisters Gabriel and Theresa, family and friends.
Reposal will take place at Tom Hennessy’s Funeral Home, Johnstown on Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm, with Requiem Mass on Wednesday in St. John’s Church, Parnell Street at 1pm.
Cremation will take place in the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy, Cork on Thursday at 2pm.
