Gardai in Waterford City are investigating after two homes were broken into yesterday.

Entry was gained to a house in Belvedere Manor through a rear window.

Burglars went through the house and a sum of cash was taken.

It happened sometime between 12.30pm and 7.00pm.

In another incident, the occupant of a house in the Woodbury, Ballinakill area heard a noise in the kitchen at around 3.30pm.

When she went to investigate she disturbed the intruder who fled before taking anything.

Anyone who has information or witnessed anything suspicious in either of these areas is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on (051) 305300.

Elsewhere, investigations are ongoing into a series of break-ins in County Waterford last week.

The first burglary occurred in the Kilmacthomas area between 9.30 and 10.00am on Thursday morning.

All the rooms including the attic were ransacked.

An hour later, a house belonging to an elderly man near Portlaw was broken into.

The 86-year-old who lives alone, was not in the house at the time, after leaving the property just minutes before the thieves struck.

A large sum of money was taken during the course of the burglary.
