The son of the late councillor Davy Daniels is set to be co-opted in place of his father.
A vote is due before the sitting members of Waterford Council at next month's meeting.
Davy's son, David Daniels will be co-opted next month on to Waterford Council if he receives a majority vote.
First elected in 1974, Davy was instrumental in the rejuvenation of the People’s Park. He also campaigned tirelessly in favour of the upgrading of WIT to SETU, and in Waterford’s battle for cardiac care.
He fought these issues extensively , often saying it was because he saw a future for his grandchildren, a future for the people of Waterford.
Family
Speaking on Déise Today, local Social Democrats councillor, Mary Roche paid homage to her former Independent colleague.
She said: "I am very happy to propose David, it is appropriate that a family member of Davy's would step up to finish his term out for him on the Council. In a similar way to myself, his family were his support network, his canvas team was his family at election time."
Davy was one of the longest serving councillors in Ireland.
