Three of the ten lowest incidence rates of Covid-19 in Ireland are in County Waterford.

Local electoral area figures for the fortnight from August 31st to September 13th, show 5 out of 6 areas in Waterford below the national average - with three in the ten lowest: Lismore (2nd); City East (6th) and Tramore / Waterford City West (9th)

Lismore has the second lowest incidence rate of Covid-19 in Ireland. Cases fell 51% this week from last with 15 recorded, with the incidence rate at 139.9 per 100,000 people.

Waterford City East saw a significant drop of 32% to 40 cases - giving the area the sixth lowest incidence rate in the country. The incidence rate is 174 exactly, compared to 256.7 a week ago.

Cases fell 9% in Tramore / Waterford City West to 41 - compared to 45 a week before. That’s the 9th lowest rate in Ireland at 183.3.

The Dungarvan LEA remains the only local electoral area in Waterford with an incidence rate higher than the national average. 89 cases were recorded there in the past two weeks - a rise of 19% - to give an incidence rate of 434.2 which is slightly higher than the national average of 413.2.

Elsewhere, cases slightly rose in Waterford City South with 59 recorded compared to 57.

Portlaw / Kilmacthomas is the next worst affected area with 36 cases, though that is a fall of 20%.

National Picture

In terms of the national picture, the Athlone LEA in County Westmeath has the lowest 14-day incidence rate at 119 per 100,000 of people.

The rate in Monaghan is ten times as high as that in Athlone, with the rate of 1,255.8 in that LEA the highest in Ireland. The vast majority of the top the worst affected areas are in the North and the midlands.
