111 people in Waterford have died as a result of Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

11 people have died of the virus nationally in the past week.

New figures released by the HSPC show the number of deaths in each county over the past 18 months, with 5,179 people sadly dying as a result of the virus in Ireland so far.

Waterford's figures make up 2.14% of the national average - with the mortality rate at 95.54 per 100,000.

Dublin accounts for over a third of Covid-related deaths in the country. 1,851 people have lost their lives in the capital - 35.74% of the national total.

Cork is the next worst affected county, with 437 Covid related fatalities (8.44%).

Leitrim has seen the least amount of Covid deaths, with 16 recorded since last March (0.31%)

South East

Wexford was the worst affected county in the South East as 152 people died of the virus in the county (2.93%). Tipperary also saw over 100 deaths (104) making up over 2% of the national total. There were 80 Covid related deaths in Kilkenny (1.54%) - while there were 72 deaths in Carlow (1.39%).

At present, there are currently six Covid patients in hospital, none of whom are receiving intensive care.
