Fire crews from Tramore and Dunmore East tackled a number of blazes at Brownstown Head earlier this morning.
A call was received at around 25 past 6 concerning a gorse fire.
Two units arrived on the scene and the blazes were extinguished at approximately half past 8.
Sinn Féin Councillor Jim Griffin says young people were partying in the area:
"There was a party, a group of teenagers congregated there last night, they seemed to have some kind of celebration going on
"In the very early hours of this morning Tramore Fire Service were alerted to smoke coming from the Tramore sand dunes.
"On investigation they discovered that it was over in the Saleen, it was substantial enough when they got there.
"There were at least six or seven areas of the dune system on fire."
He says conditions for the fire crews were difficult:
"They had to get the fire tenders down through several fields that were set for silage so they had to navigate a bit of rough terrain to get on scene.
"In fairness to their expertise and professionalism, they got it under control within an hour and half or two hours.
"By the time I got there everything was under control apart from the mess. I stress the mess, dozens and dozens of alcohol bottles strewn over a wide area."
Councillor Griffin added that "some teenagers need to be reminded by their parents about how to behave and how to bring away their rubbish".
"If they are lighting a throw-away BBQ make sure it's out before they leave the scene.
"This was just unbelievable this morning, it took a lot of taxpayers money to get this under control."
