A Waterford Councillor has called for urgent action to tackle what he has described as an "epidemic" of drag racing on the N25.
Independent Councillor Joe O'Riordan was speaking at this week's plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council where he outlined his concerns on the issue.
"Recently, there's been an explosion in social media posts of drivers drag racing along the N25 in the mid county," he said.
"They're attempting extremely dangerous manoeuvres with no care for anyone coming against them. It's an epidemic at this stage."
He called on the local authority to write to Gardaí asking them to "redouble" efforts to apprehend individuals engaged in such behaviour.
